History of the International Movement of the Red Cross

The International Movement of the Red Cross was conceived in 1859 and is linked to the Swiss national Henry Dunant, who found himself on the battlefield in Solferin the same year, after the battle of the Austrian and French armies, with a large number of dead and wounded organizing aid for the wounded with several women in the nearby church .

At the initiative of HENRY DUNANTA, a meeting was organized with representatives of 16 countries that adopted ten resolutions that set targets and working methods to assist the wounded in the battlefield.

At the Geneva Diplomatic Conference in August 1864, representatives of 12 countries agreed on a draft agreement to improve the position of the wounded in the armed forces.

The agreement was called the Geneva Convention.

At the same time, the red cross on the white background (vice versa of the Swiss flag) was accepted as a symbol of the start of the Red Cross movement and became an integral part of the treaty as a trademark of military medical services.
